        <heading>Short title</heading>
        <content>
          <p>		This Act may be cited as the <i>Salaries Adjustment Act 1955</i>.</p>
        </content>
      </section>
      <section eId="sec-2">
        <num>2</num>
        <heading>Commencement</heading>
        <content>
          <p>This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.</p>
        </content>
      </section>
      <section eId="sec-3">
        <num>3</num>
        <heading>Statutory offices</heading>
        <subsection eId="sec-3__subsec-1">
          <num>1</num>
          <content>
            <p>The Acts specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this Act (being Acts fixing the salaries payable to the holders of the offices respectively specified in the second column of that Schedule) are amended as respectively specified in the third column of that Schedule.</p>

        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-3__subsec-2">
          <num>2</num>
          <content>
            <p>The amendments effected by the last preceding sub-section shall be deemed to have had effect from and including the first day of January, One thousand nine hundred and fifty-five.</p>

        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-3__subsec-3">
          <num>3</num>
          <content>
            <p>	(3)	Section one hundred and eighty-two of the <i>Income Tax and Social Services Contribution Assessment Act </i>1936-1954  is amended by omitting the words ''Thirty thousand pounds'' and inserting in their stead the words ''Thirty-five thousand pounds''.</p>
          </content>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-3__subsec-4">
          <num>4</num>
          <content>
            <p>	(4)	Section one of the <i>Public Service Arbitration Act </i>1955 is amended by omitting sub-section (3).</p>
          </content>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-3__subsec-5">
          <num>5</num>
          <content>
            <p>Each Act specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited in the manner specified in the second column of that Schedule opposite to the reference to that Act in the first column.</p>

        </subsection>
      </section>
      <section eId="sec-4">
        <num>4</num>
        <heading>Public Service and other Services</heading>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-1">
          <num>1</num>
          <content>
            <p>The variations in the salaries, or limits of salary, of offices or positions specified in the first column of the Third Schedule to this Act made by the authorities respectively specified in the second column of that Schedule on the dates respectively specified in the third column of that Schedule shall be deemed to have been lawfully made and shall have effect, and shall be deemed to have had effect from and including the dates respectively specified in the fourth column of that Schedule, as a re-classification of those offices or positions.</p>

        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-2">
          <num>2</num>
          <content>
            <p>An office or position so re-classified shall be deemed not to have become vacant by reason of the re-classification.</p>
          </content>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-3">
          <num>3</num>
          <content>
            <p>	(3)	Regulations may be made under the <i>Public Service Act </i>1922-1955 for purposes of or in relation to a re-classification referred to in sub-section (1) of this section of offices to which that Act applies and regulations so made shall be deemed to have come into operation on the twenty-third day of December, One thousand nine hundred and fifty-four.</p>

        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-4">
          <num>4</num>
          <content>
            <p>Any action taken before the commencement of this Act by an authority specified in the second column of the Third Schedule to this Act for purposes of or in relation to a re-classification referred to in sub-section (1) of this section shall be deemed to have been lawfully taken, and, if <role refersTo="#authority">the authority</role> specified a date as the date from which that action should be deemed to have had effect, to have had effect from that date.</p>
          </content>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-5">
          <num>5</num>
          <content>
            <p>The action referred to in the last preceding sub-section includes, in the case of an office or position having varied limits of salary applicable to it by virtue of a re-classification referred to in sub-section (1) of this section, action to determine:</p>
          </content>
          <paragraph eId="sec-4__subsec-5__para-a">
            <num>a</num>
            <content>
              <p>the rate of salary, within those limits, which the occupant of that office or position was entitled to be paid as from the date specified in the fourth column of the Third Schedule to this Act in relation to that office or position; and</p>
            </content>
          </paragraph>
          <paragraph eId="sec-4__subsec-5__para-b">
            <num>b</num>
            <content>
              <p>the date as from which the occupant of that office or position would become eligible to be granted his first increment of salary after the date so specified.</p>
            </content>
          </paragraph>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-4__subsec-6">
          <num>6</num>
          <content>
            <p>	(6)	The <i>Public Service Act</i> 1951 is repealed. Section 5 repealed by No. 27, 1955, s. 11.</p>
