      <p>An Act to amend the <i>Judges</i><i>’</i><i> Pensions Act </i>1968.</p>
      <p>BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:</p>

          <num>1</num>
          <content>
            <p><b>1.</b><b> </b>(1) This Act may be cited as the <i>Judges</i><i>’</i><i> Pensions Amendment Act </i>1979<i>.</i></p>
          </content>
        </subsection>
        <subsection eId="sec-1__subsec-2">
          <num>2</num>
          <content>
            <p>(2) The <i>Judges</i><i>’</i><i> Pensions Act </i>1968 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.</p>
          </content>
        </subsection>

      <section eId="sec-2">
        <num>2</num>
        <heading>Commencement</heading>
        <content>
          <p><b>2.</b> This Act shall come into operation on the date fixed under section 2 of the <i>Northern Territory Supreme Court (Repeal) Act </i>1979.</p>

        <num>3</num>
        <heading>Interpretation</heading>
        <content>
          <p><b>3.</b> Section 4 of the Principal Act is amended—</p>
          <p>(a) by omitting “an internal Territory” from paragraph (a) of the definition of “Judge” in sub-section (1) and substituting “the Australian Capital Territory”; and</p>
          <p>(b) by inserting after paragraph (a) of the definition of “prior judicial service” in sub-section (1) the following paragraph:</p>
          <p>“(ab) service as a Judge or acting Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, including that Court as in existence at any time before the commencement of the <i>Northern Territory Supreme Court (Repeal) Act </i>1979;”.</p>

      <section eId="sec-4">
        <num>4</num>
        <heading>Transitional</heading>
        <content>
          <p><b>4.</b> Where, immediately before the commencement of this Act, any benefit was payable under the Principal Act by reason of a person having been a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, the Principal Act continues to apply to and in respect of the person as if the amendment of that Act by paragraph 3(a) had not been made.</p>
