      <p>BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:</p>

            <p><b>1.</b> This Act may be cited as the <i>Remuneration and Allowances Amendment Act </i>1981.</p>

          <heading>Commencement</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>2.</b> This Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1 July 1981.</p>

        <heading>MODIFICATIONS OF DETERMINATIONS OF THE REMUNERATION TRIBUNAL</heading>

            <b>Allowances to be paid to office holders of the Parliament</b>
          </p>

          <subsection eId="part-II__sec-3__subsec-1">
            <num>1</num>
            <content>
              <p><b>3.</b> <b>(1) </b>Determination No. 9 of 1981 of the Remuneration Tribunal dated 18 June 1981 relating to the allowances to be paid to members of the</p>

              <p>Parliament by reason of their holding particular offices, or performing particular functions, in, or in relation to, the Parliament or either House of the Parliament is modified by omitting paragraph 1 and substituting the following paragraph:</p>

              <p><b>(2) </b>The determination of the Remuneration Tribunal referred to in sub-section (1) as modified by that sub-section has effect as if it were a determination of the Remuneration Tribunal.</p>

            <num>1</num>

              <p><b>4. (1) </b>Determination No. 10 of 1981 of the Remuneration Tribunal dated 18 June 1981 relating to the allowances to be paid to members of the Parliament is modified by omitting paragraph 1 and substituting the following paragraph:</p>

        <heading>SALARIES OF MINISTERS OF STATE</heading>
        <section eId="part-III__sec-5">
          <num>5</num>
          <heading>Principal Act</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>5.</b> The <i>Ministers of State Act </i>1952<sup>1</sup> is in this Part referred to as the Principal Act.</p>
          </content>
        </section>
        <section eId="part-III__sec-6">
          <num>6</num>
          <heading>Salaries of Ministers</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>6.</b> Section 5 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting “$400,000” and substituting “$452,000”.</p>

      <part eId="part-IV">
        <num>IV</num>
        <heading>AMENDMENTS OF THE REMUNERATION AND ALLOWANCES ACT 1973</heading>
        <section eId="part-IV__sec-7">
          <num>7</num>
          <heading>Principal Act</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>7.</b> The <i>Remuneration and Allowances Act </i>1973<sup>2</sup> is in this Part referred to as the Principal Act.</p>
          </content>
        </section>
        <section eId="part-IV__sec-8">
          <num>8</num>
          <heading>Salary and allowances of certain office holders</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>8.</b> Section 13 of the Principal Act is amended—</p>
            <p>(a) by adding at the end of paragraph (4) (b) “or”;</p>
            <p>(b) by omitting paragraph (4) (c); and</p>
            <p>(c) by omitting “$275” and substituting “$300”.</p>

        <section eId="part-IV__sec-9">
          <num>9</num>
          <heading>Travelling allowance payable to the Chief Justice and Justices of the High Court</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>9.</b> Section 13a of the Principal Act is amended—</p>
            <p>(a) by omitting sub-paragraph (4) (a) (i) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:</p>
            <p>“(i) in a case to which sub-paragraph (ii) does not apply—</p>
            <p>(A) for an overnight stay in a capital city—$98; or</p>
            <p>(B) for any other overnight stay—$75; or”;</p>
            <p>(b) by omitting from sub-paragraph (4) (a) (ii) and from paragraph (4) (b) “$20” and substituting “$25”;</p>
            <p>(c) by omitting from sub-paragraph (6) (a) (i) “$80” and substituting “$98”; and</p>
            <p>(d) by omitting from sub-paragraph (6) (a) (ii) and from paragraph (6) (b) “$20” and substituting “$25”.</p>

        <section eId="part-IV__sec-10">
          <num>10</num>
          <heading>Additional allowance payable to certain Justices of the High Court</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>10.</b> Section 13b of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (1) “$7,500” and substituting “$8,250”.</p>

          <num>11</num>
          <heading>Travelling allowances payable to holders of certain offices</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>11.</b> Section 13c of the Principal Act is amended—</p>
            <p>(a) by omitting sub-paragraph (4) (a) (i) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:</p>
            <p>“(i) in a case to which sub-paragraph (ii) does not apply—</p>
            <p>(A) for an overnight stay in a capital city—$90; or</p>
            <p>(B) for any other overnight stay—$70; or”; and</p>
            <p>(b) by omitting from sub-paragraph (4) (a) (ii) and from paragraph (4) (b) “$20” and substituting “$25”.</p>

          <heading>Exclusion of sub-section 7 (8) of Remuneration Tribunals Act 1973</heading>
          <content>
            <p><b>14.</b> Sub-section 7 (8) of the Principal Act does not apply in relation to—</p>
            <p>(a) any determination of the Remuneration Tribunal that was made on <date date="1981-06-18">18 June 1981</date>; or</p>
            <p>(b) in the case of such a determination that has been modified by a provision of <ref href="#part-II">Part II</ref> of this Act—that determination as so modified.</p>
