An Act to amend the law relating to reviews under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, the Parliamentary Business Resources Act 2017 and the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service Act 2023, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title

This Act is the Parliamentary Frameworks Legislation Amendment (Reviews) Act 2026.
2 Commencement 1

Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3 Schedules

Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Amendments

Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984

 1 Subsection 32(1)

Omit all the words after “conducted”, substitute “as soon as practicable after 22 March 2026”.

Parliamentary Business Resources Act 2017

 2 Subsection 56(1)

Repeal the subsection, substitute:

Parliamentary Workplace Support Service Act 2023

The Minister must cause an independent review of the operation of this Act, and of whether this Act should be amended, to be conducted as soon as practicable after:

 a

22 March 2026; and

 b

(b) the end of the period of 5 years beginning on 23 March 2026; and

 c

the end of each later 5-year period.

 3 Section 68 (heading)

Omit “Review”, substitute “Periodic review”.

 4 Subsection 68(1)

Repeal the subsection, substitute:

House of Representatives on 4 March 2026

Senate on 11 March 2026]

The Minister must cause a review of the operation of this Act and the PWSS rules to be conducted as soon as practicable after:

 a

22 March 2026; and

 b

(b) the end of the period of 5 years beginning on 23 March 2026; and

 c

the end of each later 5-year period.
